Promotions Criteria

Promotion in rank here at ESB is based on regular attendance, active participation and performance, taking into account quality and longevity of membership service. Post count, post quality, department service, service to the ESB community at large, as well as adherence to ESB rules and regulations, observing military courtesy, and maintaining good relationships on a personal and social level all enhance one’s suitability for promotion. Each rank has a minimum time-in-grade requirement. The officer or Jedi who has acquired the time in grade and has fulfilled all the other pertinent requirements stands an excellent chance of getting the promotion that he or she is going after. Please note that an officer or Jedi should not expect immediate promotions after time-in-grade has been satisfied if other requirements have not been achieved.

Promotion in rank from Starfleet ensign through lieutenant, from MACO or Stargate 2nd lieutenant through captain, or from Jedi initiate through Jedi apprentice, does not require departmental service. However, only by serving in a department can one be promoted to the ranks of Starfleet lieutenant commander, MACO or Stargate major, or Jedi commander, and higher. It should be noted that promotion to the rank of Starfleet captain, MACO or Stargate colonel, or Jedi Master, and above, in addition to the normal criteria, depends on the availability of an open position requiring that rank.

Promotions are made once every second calendar month, and are posted on the last Friday of the designated month. At the discretion of the starbase commander, certain promotions based on merit may be awarded at any time he or she deems fit.

Evaluating officers and Jedi carefully ensures that all members are evaluated in their specific areas of focus. This is done by ensuring that all the required criteria for promotion have been completely fulfilled. Evaluations are submitted to the starbase vice commander no later than the Friday one week before promotions are set to be posted.

* Earning a flag rank is very challenging and is only granted to those Starfleet captains, MACO and Stargate colonels, and Jedi generals who have met the above criteria in abundance.
